DEI Project Coordinator - the Adecco Group
"Hello! I am Asher Jones and I was born in Atlanta, GA, and raised in Roswell I graduated from Roswell High School in 2013 and went on to Georgia State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in International Studies and a minor in Spanish. Since graduating from GSU, I have used my degree in various ways that have been influential and at the same time unexpected...
Initially, upon graduating from Georgia State in 2017, I was anticipating joining the U.S. Foreign Service and was considering diplomatic location offers in Caracas, Venezuela as well as other Latin American countries. However, due to the significant political turmoil that befell Venezuela around that time, as well as situations that occurred in my personal life, I decided it would be best for me to focus on starting my career closer to home. From there I went on to accept the position of Programs and Operations Director for 21st Century Leaders, a youth-serving nonprofit based in Decatur, GA that focuses on developing high school students from underprivileged areas across the state and instructing them in leadership skills and identifying career opportunities. I remained at 21st Century Leaders until the summer of 2022 and I was able to learn so much and develop meaningful relationships that in many cases developed as a result of the connections I was able to form while at Georgia State. I have always been passionate about people and helping others, and that passion was refined at GSU. The experiences I had meeting with people without homes at Hurt Park every Friday as well as the two May-semesters I spent in Mexico City have shaped and informed every area of my life. I recently accepted the role of DEI Project Coordinator for the Adecco Group and have been afforded the opportunity to be a worldwide leader, which I believe is a testament to the values instilled in GSU students. The Interdisciplinary and Spanish departments at GSU provided me an opportunity to think beyond what i thought I was capable and develop a skillset that can hopefully impact change!"
Grants Program Administrator - State Road & Tollway Authority
"I graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Modern Languages (French) in 2016 and a Master of Public Policy degree in 2018. I was a recipient of the Governor Joe Frank Harris award, which supports students making an impact in education policy. In addition, I achieved Research Honors distinction as an undergraduate. I was also a founding member of the Honors College Ambassadors...
I continue to serve as an ambassador for the University as a member of the Young Alumni Council and the professional co-ed fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. I traveled to France for the first time through a study abroad exchange program in 2015, and I’ve been traveling the world ever since. Professionally, I’ve worked for a variety of companies, but I ended up falling in love with serving the State of Georgia. I currently manage grant funds for state and local transit agencies at the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority. In previous roles, I provided funding recommendations for education agencies as an Analyst with Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and coordinated the Youth Empowerment Series through the Commissioner’s Office of the Department of Human Services."
B.A. in Spanish, Master of International Business
Director of Global Sourcing - Terrasoul Superfoods
"The GSU Master of International Business degree through Robinson helped prepare me for a global sourcing and supply chain career by providing a business foundation and key skills to tackle business in an international environment, such as project management, negotiation, and trade. The students in the program were from all over the world, at all different career levels, and came from various business focuses such as marketing, finance, sales, etc...
Additionally, there were great career resources offered through the career center and wonderful networking opportunities that helped me land my first job. Being around such great and inspiring talent in my classmates and professors helped feed my drive to also achieve profession success early on."
B.A. in Spanish, Master of International Business
Director of Business Intelligence – Bridge Commercial Real Estate
"As Director of Business Intelligence, I am responsible for creating efficiencies within my organization using data analytics, process improvement strategies, report automation, and implementing new technologies. My education at Georgia State University was invaluable. More than anything, I learned not to take information at face value. I learned to think critically, and challenge the status quo...
The cultural aspect of my education helped me to sharpen emotional intelligence skills, understanding that people have different perspectives and motivations based on personalities and upbringings. Coupling these skills together in a business environment allowed me to excel in an ever-changing economy and highly competitive industry."
Product Manager - Word Press Engine
"Being a French major with an international business concentration and a marketing minor at Georgia State set me up for success in the cross-functional business world. Balancing my language, marketing & sales courses while having 7 internships during my undergrad, ultimately becoming a first-generation graduate was often hard. I believe that being impacted by retention grants, iCare Alerts & additional nationally precedent setting programs made my journey as smooth as possible...
The relationships I created and have since maintained with the faculty, staff & overall administration of the university gave me an opportunity to balance many priorities and refine what is my workplace superpower: maintaining relationships/soft skills. I believe my undergraduate experiences helped forge my superpower in complex business environments which will continue to become more important, especially as more companies are beginning to emphasize soft skills above hard skills for developing leaders of global organizations."
