Technical Recruiter - K2 Partnering Solutions
"One of the most important takeaways from my undergrad experience as a psychology major at GSU has been my ability to process information and evaluate it accordingly. In all my core major classes I was exposed to a plethora of different topics which increased my psychological knowledge, and the push from professors to do additional research and further my understanding prepared me for grad school and my career as a Technical Recruiter...
The general understanding of human thoughts and behaviors helps me directly when interacting with candidates, and the ability to absorb information systematically assists me greatly when learning the ins and outs of a field I initially knew nothing of. Furthermore, my work as an Undergraduate TA for Careers in Psychology overlaps significantly with what I do in my current job - editing resumes, learning about different career trajectories, and offering relevant advice. As a student, I also learned how to manage my time effectively and remain organized, which has been very helpful when balancing my job and working as a freelance researcher. I help clients conduct market research rooted in academic literature, which is an extension of what I did as a student."
Doctoral Student – Community Psychology at Georgia State University
"My time as a psychology major helped me to develop the necessary research, writing, and critical thinking skills necessary to become a doctoral student. Self-motivation, time management, organizational ability, and courage to develop professional relationships are some of the invaluable skills I was able to attain during my time in the psychology program at Georgia State....
As a graduate student in a research focused program, it is important to be able to maintain self-awareness and cultural humility. The diverse perspectives in each of my classes during my time as an undergraduate helped me understand why it is important to further develop and allow these abilities to lead my work.
When I started at GSU, I had no intention of continuing to graduate school. The knowledge I gained (and continue to gain!) about the field and the relationships I developed with my professors and graduate mentors during my undergraduate years inspired me to achieve more. The Careers in Psychology course introduced me to the various fields of psychology and more importantly, showed me the necessary steps needed to become a psychologist. The Introduction and Advanced Research Design and Analysis courses taught me about the research process and the importance of utilizing science to seek truth. The Community Psychology course, one of several elective courses, introduced what would become my chosen career path. Being an undergraduate research assistant helped me develop practical research skills and provided a village of graduate student mentors that encouraged me and shared their experiences with me. Something I now get to provide for undergraduate students!"
