Employers Value Health and Physical Education Majors
Teacher Certification
The Bachelor of Science in Education in Health and Physical Education (teacher certification concentration) is designed to prepare health and physical education teachers to educate pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students about physical and motor skills, individual and team sport skills and tactics, physical fitness, nutrition, and health to encourage active lifestyles across the lifespan and contribute to the overall health and wellness of students and staff in the school setting. Students who earn teaching certification can serve in a head coach position in public schools in Georgia.
Sport Coaching
Sport Coaching is teaching in an athletic venue instead of a classroom. The Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education (sport coaching concentration) merges theoretical understanding of psychological, scientific, and pedagogical aspects of coaching with practical experiences to prepare students to succeed in coaching at all levels of sport. The curriculum follows the knowledge and skills outlined by The Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America) National Standards for Sport Coaches preparing students to be effective leaders and advocates of athletes regardless of the sport.

Graduate Student - Georgia State University
"It was a privilege to be able to be a graduate student of the Georgia State M.A.T. program for Health and Physical Education. The program allowed me to grow as a student and as a Health and Physical Education teacher. I learned many important strategies that have helped me in the gym and in the classroom. The program gave me many takeaways, but most importantly, I was happy to be able to learn how to be a better teacher in a field that means a lot to me...
This allows me to be the most effective teacher possible. GEORGIA STATE gave me growth, determination, motivation, and perseverance. For that, I am thankful and grateful."
Co Founder - Next Level Youth Sports Camps, Inc.
"The program helped me with my lesson plan organizational skills and helped me understand how to recognize student’s different skill levels and abilities. I also developed a deeper understanding of the importance of the three learning styles of students and how to incorporate them in the lesson plan."
