The department of Computer Science at GSU focuses on building skills essential for career management. Career planning, developing a sound strategy for your career, building an action plan, and evaluating your progress are some of the skills you will acquire at GSU. Some examples of emphasis on career management skills include:
Internships at local and international companies – Students have an opportunity to connect with companies interested in offering internship opportunities.
Career Readiness course material – Some of the courses offered by the Computer Science department include material covering career readiness; skills such as resume writing, practical communication skills, and presentation skills are refined.
Capstone course – The Capstone course offers students a chance to understand the demands of a typical software development workplace and provides an opportunity to partner with interested industry partners
DEMO Day – The annual DEMO day is a platform for students to present their term projects or research projects to an audience from the industry, academia, and peers.
Engineer in residence program (EIR) – The department of Computer Science partnered with Meta (formerly Facebook) to create an EIR program. This allows a software engineer from Meta to teach courses, host campus workshops, mock interviews and other events to enhance internship and employment opportunities for students.
