Opportunities in the Major:

Three-dimensional Studies Concentration

Exploration of the ceramics from the Arts and Crafts Movement of the nineteenth century through contemporary trends.
Students will have the opportunity to study abroad through the university’s various offerings including China, Ireland, among many other countries with workshops, tours and talks at world-class museums and cultural institutions.

Textiles Concentration

Students will gain global insight of textiles from around the world including weaving, fabric dyeing, sewing, etc.
Explore textiles from the Arts and Crafts Movement of the nineteenth century through contemporary trends.
Students will have the opportunity to study abroad through the university’s various offerings including China, Ireland, among many other countries with workshops, tours and talks at world-class museums and cultural institutions.

Photography Concentration

Students will gain global insight to some of the world’s leading photographers through tours of photography exhibitions presented by Atlanta’s major art museums including The High Museum of the Art, Atlanta Contemporary, etc.
Students will address critical issues and expressive approaches in photographic practice through the study of theory and history; technical and aesthetic development; influences the medium has had on art and culture.
Students will have the opportunity to study abroad through the university’s various offerings including China, Ireland, among many other countries with workshops, tours and talks at world-class museums and cultural institutions.

Graphic Design Concentration

Aesthetic expressions of African-American artists from colonial times to present. Social, cultural, and creative history of Black America. Diverse contributions made by artists of African descent to the development of American culture. Artists, art movements, the relationship of art to politics, and the formation of racial/cultural identity.

Opportunities in the Major:

Three-dimensional Studies Concentration

Students will learn the fundamentals of three-dimensional design introduced through projects in a variety of media.
Students will explore the methods and theories involved in the production of installation art through the investigation of form and space and of their function in transforming environmental, architectural, or invented sites.

Textiles Concentration

Students prepare for careers in fine art, the textile industry, the film industry, and graduate study.

Photography concentration

Students will learn about photography within a fine arts context.
Learn how about the operation of the DSLR camera and lenses.

Drawing and Painting or Printmaking Concentration

Students will study the feminist analyses of contemporary art and visual culture.

Interior Design Concentration

Students will learn the basic elements of building construction, environmental building systems, and design and construction regulations.
Students will learn the values of contemporary interior design practice as it prepares them for careers as licensed professional interior designers who are adept at providing provocative aesthetic solutions to client needs while managing program, schedules and budgets.

Graphic Design Concentration

Students learn graphic design principles through problem-solving. The program encourages students to meld the practical aspects of applied design creatively with more abstract issues of personal exploration, social consciousness and individual goals.
Students will focus on the human condition, how people have expressed themselves through the arts and humanities, and how such representations have had broad historical and/or contemporary impact.
Students will learn concepts and practices of graphic design through combining of type and images; introduction to Macintosh-based graphics software; graphics presentation techniques.

Three-dimensional Studies Concentration

Students participate in sculpture-related programs and workshops including student organizations such as SLIPS and Edgewood Sculpture Forum.
Students will lead the organization of the SLIPS ceramic fundraisers, as well as open studio events and demos.

Textiles Concentration

Students participate in textile-related programs and workshops including the Textiles Artisans Guild

Photography Concentration

Students participate in arts photography programs and projects including the student-run Exlucis photography club which mounts photo exhibitions throughout the year.

Drawing and Painting or Printmaking Concentration

Student take participated and lead arts programs and projects (e.g. murals, auctions, festivals, etc.) both on-campus and throughout the Atlanta arts community

Interior Design Concentration

Students will collaborate with fellow interior design students and lead interior design presentations.

Graphic Design Concentration

Students will have the opportunities to take leadership roles during team-related projects; including leading presentations and organizational management.
